Our guests this month were Quentin Smith and Terry Cambridge from the Staffs Marquetry Group. After a brief introduction the duo distributed starter kits for members to "have a go" at a basic marquetry design. I think most of us will need several years of practice before we achieve the levels illustrated by the samples of work brought along by Quentin and Terry.
March Meeting

Teacher keeps an eye on the Chairman - someone has to do!
A study in concentration.
John Henbery got a gold star from teacher.
The following are examples of work produced by our guests. This shows the use of grain to emphasise curves (honestly!)
Straight out of the estate agent's window.
A splendid wild life study.
Reverse of the previous picture, and Yes, the signature IS marquetry.
The size of the coin emphasises the intricate work.
The marquetry worker's skill at its best.
And another.
. . . . . . . and another!
This again illustrates the skillful use of grain . . . . . . yeah right!
Another for the blokes (sorry about the lighting)!

Unplaced items - Tom Livesey recycles an old knife set and Digby Owen completes the breakfast table with his unusual egg cup (complete with salt container).
