Personal details

Married to Rita with a son Jonathan.

Left school
(Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Horncastle) in 1968 and joined Boots The Chemists Ltd. in Lincoln where I spent a year learning the basics and attending night school in order to pass A-Level Physics. Following this I continued my education at the School of Pharmacy at Sunderland Technical College (later to become a Polytechnic and now University) graduating in July 1968 with a B.Sc. degree in Pharmacy returning to work for BTC at the store in Boston. Following a period of relief management in the wilds of my native Lincolnshire I took up my first management appointment in Windermere where I stayed for the following six years. In 1973 I moved from one national park to another and arrived in Ashbourne - liked what I found there and stayed until my retirement in 2005 after 40 years with the same company.

Rita was also employed by the same company as myself until we came to Ashbourne. She worked as a receptionist at a local water sports centre until surgery on her feet halted activities and now has joined me in the ranks of retired persons.

Unlike his father, Jonathan passed his A-Level Physics at the first attempt and entered the medical school at Leeds University in 1998 from where he emerged six years later with degrees in Medicine (MB ChB) and Anatomy (BSc). Initially he aimed for a career in Surgery but following the attempts of the government of the day to wreck the NHS and put 30% of Junior Doctors in the dole queue he changed direction and is now a Specialty Registrar in Radiology working in the hospitals of West Yorkshire towards a Consultant position.
