If you travel in a north easterly direction out of Ashbourne, Derbyshire (UK) along the B5035 you will soon be in sight of Carsington Water, Britain's newest reservoir.  Opened in May 1992 by H.M. The Queen having an area of 741 acres (300 hectares in new money), as well as providing much needed water in times of drought the reservoir is an important centre of leisure for the Midlands.

The water was opened for fly fishing (brown trout) in 1996 and  in the weeks that followed a number of anglers suggested that a club be set up for those people who regularly fished the water.  Thus in 1998 three friends discussed the possibilities of running a club and what is now known as the Carsington Fly Fishers became a reality.

The club runs a series of friendly competitions throughout the season and the member amassing the highest number of points is awarded the Angler of the Year Trophy.  During the close season it was customary to hold a number of evening meetings in a local hostelry when members were able to see fly tying demonstrations etc., however, owing to disappointing attendances the committee now channels its energy and members' money into social events such as a barbecue and annual dinner.

A newsletter  is issued two or three times per year.  If you wish to learn more about the club, please contact :    fishing@jsharpe.co.uk

Annual membership fee still only £15
